H.E. Mahamat Paba Salé was born in 1950 at Kousseri

Attended primary school at Koussseri, and in 1963 moved to Garoua for secondary education, from where he graduated with a baccalaureate in 1970.

University studies in Yaoundé, where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in geography in 1973, and a Masters Degree in 1974 at the University of Yaoundé; a High School Teachers’ Certificate (Certificat d’Aptitude au Professorat de l’Enseignement Secondaire - CAPES) in the same university in 1974; and a Doctorate in Tropical Geography and Ecology from the University of Bordeaux III, in France.
